Numerology is the divinatory art that draws meaning, purpose and guidance from numbers and number combinations. It is an ancient mystical science which attributes deeper meaning to numbers and their frequencies as they relate to our own lives, paths, and purposes along with the energetic influence that they have.
Some of the origins of Numerology can be traced back to civilizations like Mesopotamia, Babylon, Egypt, Greece, Rome, India, and China. But here, we are going to focus on Western Numerology or Pythagorean Numerology, which has been traced back to at least 500 B.C. and the Greek philosopher, mystic, and mathematician Pythagoras. He was the one who discovered a direct relationship between numbers and musical notes. He believed that numbers carried sacred codes and were divinely inspired and created. Pythagoras used the main law of decoding numbers by reducing them to single digits. In Numerology, this is referred to as getting the digital root number using the numbers 1-9
To do this, you are simply going to simplify or reduce the digits of a number until you reach a single digit. (Ex. 122: 1+2+2+=5) Every single digit 1-9 holds a very specific meaning as well as the three master numbers 11, 22 and 33.
So what exactly do these numbers represent:
● 1 represents the root of opportunity in our lives. It is a number of creation and symbolizes confidence, power, and action. As well as, newness, possibilities, new beginnings/fresh starts, movement, independence, and leadership. It is also representative of the Sun.

It is known as the “Karmic Equalizer” as it both creates and destroys and will make sure what you reap, what you’ve sown. It is representative of Saturn.
● 9 represents completion, but not a final “ending” but the completion or fulfillment of a cycle. It is symbolic of power, recognition, and wisdom and represents great mental and spiritual realizations. It is representative of Mars. In Western, or Pythagorean Numerology, there are 3 master numbers. These numbers are 11, 22 and 33. Master numbers hold more power and possibility and are said to be an expression of what is called the triangle of enlightenment.
● 11 is the visionary. It represents a cycle of new beginnings. It offers insight and awakening and helps pave the way to moving into higher frequencies of consciousness. It is a representation of the number 2 vibration, which carries not only high psychic vibrations, but it is also the balance of feminine and masculine energy.
● 22 is the builder, sometimes called the planner, but is all about taking action. Referred to as the Master Builder, it is considered one of the most powerful because it is the builder of spiritual ideals and selfless service and lays the solid foundation through hard work and patience.
● 33 is the messenger and is the number of the Master Teacher. It represents guidance, “Christ consciousness”, and represents unconditional service as one surrenders to Spirit/Source/God/ Creator, putting their mind to rest and allowing unconditional love to be their guide. The energy here represents that while you may have something to teach others in life, you understand that there are always lessons to be learned.
Because we live in a world of duality, there is a dark and light side to everything including numbers. The Dark Side of Master Numbers can push to the extremes which can manifest in the form of mental imbalance or disorders (dis-order of the mind). Which can create instability and be a powerful threat to those around you. The Light Side of Master Numbers is that pull towards balance, stability, and a higher consciousness that becomes a balancing energy to those around you. Numbers carry a unique vibration, each with their own unique meaning. Hopefully by understanding the significance and importance of numbers you can start to see how they manifest in your life and what they represent on your individual path.
