Spiritual Hygiene: Smokeless Cleansing Practices

When it comes to cleansing our homes, many of us turn to traditional methods such as burning sage or using incense. While these practices have been used for centuries and are deeply rooted in various cultures, they may not be suitable for everyone. Some people may have allergies or respiratory issues that make smoke-filled rituals difficult to tolerate. Others may live in apartments or shared spaces where burning materials are not allowed. Whatever the reason, there are plenty of smokeless alternatives for cleansing your home and refreshing its energy. In this post, we will explore some effective smokeless cleansing practices that you can incorporate into your routine.

First up, let's talk about sound vibrations. Sound has the power to transform and cleanse the energy of a space. One popular method is using sound bowls, bells, and tuning forks. Simply strike the bowl or ring the bell and let the vibrations fill the room, releasing any negative energy and inviting in positivity. Crystals are another alternative and have long been believed to have healing and cleansing properties. Place crystals such as clear quartz, selenite, amethyst, or black tourmaline strategically around your home to absorb negative energy and promote a positive atmosphere.

Another smokeless alternative is essential oils, diffusers, or scented candles to infuse your home with calming and uplifting fragrances. Choose scents like lavender, frankincense, sage, palo santo, rosemary, and lemon when clearing and cleansing your personal space. Simmer pots are another great way to cleanse your space.

Here’s an easy D.I.Y. Smudge spray that you can incorporate into your practice:

4oz amber or clear glass spray bottle (or larger)

Water

¼ tsp. of sea salt

Witch Hazel

Essential Oils: Sage, Lemon, Rosemary, Palo Santo, Lavender, Cedarwood (you don’t have to use them all, choose which ones are appealing to you or create a blend of your liking)

Add equal parts water and witch hazel into the glass bottle.

Then add in the sea salt.

Next, incorporate the essential oils of your choosing. I start with 10 drops of each.

Once you have the desired scent, twist the spray nozzle onto the bottle and gently shake up.

Happy smudging!

**If you don't have any of the items listed above, you can always use the power of visualization. This practice involves mentally envisioning your home being cleansed and purified. Imagine a bright light filling each room, sweeping away any negativity, and replacing it with pure positive energy.**

No matter what cleansing practices you choose to incorporate in your own space, remember that setting your intention is the most vital piece.
